The course syllabus

 

(1) The magnetic Field

The definition of magnetic field (B), Magnetic force on a current, Torque in a current loop, The Hall effect, Circulation charges, Cyclotrons and synchotrons, The discovery of electron.

 

(2) Sources of Magnetic Field

The Biot-Savart law, The magnetic force between two parallel conductors, The Ampere's Law, The magnetic field of a solenoid, Magnetic flux.

 

(3) Faraday's Law of Induction

Faraday's experiment, Faraday's law of induction, Len's law.

 

(4) Inductance

Self inductance, RC circuits, Energy in magnetic field, Oscillation in a LC circuit, The RLC circuit.

 

(5) Magnetic Properties of Matter

Gauss's law for magnetism, The magnetism of the earth, Paramagnetism, Diamagnetism, Ferromagnetism, Three magnetic vector.

 

(6) Alternating Current
